When it comes to mornings, let’s face it, we could use some inspiration to get out of bed. In this post, Kat Beck shares her current morning ritual and advice on creating meaning mornings of our own.
What does your typical morning look like? Could you share some tips on creating rituals and intentions that set the day off right?
I have always been a morning person, but my current ritual is my favorite one ever. I feel so alert and refreshed every morning. I’m really grateful to have the time to do this at this point in my life.
- I wake up 2-3 hours before I have to be anywhere
- start my day with water and deep belly breaths. I try to make it warm lemon water, but honestly, it’s usually just a big glass of room temperature H2O.
- I take a cold shower because it’s really healthy, and honestly, I crave them now. While in the shower, I ground myself by imagining roots growing into the earth from my feet. I then do Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine 4 thumps to wake up my energy body (tapping on specific meridian points to get energy moving). As I do this, I thank my body for being healthy and vibrant. It’s a very power packed 2 minutes of my day. I don’t feel like my day has started until I do this now.
- ·I meditate. I do ten minutes of breath-work, then ten minutes of insight meditation (just observing whatever comes up). I end my meditation with intention setting. I let my daily intention come to me intuitively. Nothing fancy- I keep it simple: be still, be grateful, or be present are typical daily intentions for me.
- I add and eliminate elements of my twenty minute meditation practice ALL THE TIME. Some mornings, sleep is more important, so I skip meditation. However, I truly look forward to this time each morning -so I have to convince sleepy Kat to get out of bed and get on the cushion.
- I make my coffee and keto creamer: start with heated almond milk, then blend collagen, MCT oil and coconut oil and add to fresh coffee. I sip this amazing concoction outside with my husband for about an hour. We simply sit, chat, listen to the birds and maybe stretch a bit. I might write in my journal at this time if I feel like it.
- Once my husband leaves for work, I BLAST my music of the moment (I tend to listen to an album on repeat for weeks on end). I dance around and get ready for the day.
My advice on creating morning rituals are to do your favorite things in the morning. What makes you feel alive? For me- it’s meditating, coffee, being outside and dancing. So, that’s what I do in the morning. If you feel like you’re forcing something, then try something else. I tried working out in the morning but it didn’t suit me.
Be flexible with it. I mix around elements of my morning routine all the time. Life is always changing so go with the flow. Intention setting is very powerful. It’s a way to consciously plant a seed within your mind. What kind of seeds are you planting? If you don’t like the thoughts that seem to run your life- know that YOU can change them. Set intentions that feel true within your soul.
