This is the exact spray I prepare at home to clean my yoga mat regularly. What you'll need:
Some basic items I found at my local co-op.
- a clean, empty glass bottle
- witch hazel (this can be found at most drug stores)
- your favorite essential oil blend (I'll provide some recommendations in the post)
- filtered water
Directions:
- Fill the glass bottle 3/4 of the way full with filtered water
- Fill the remaining 1/4 with witch hazel
- Add 3-4 drops of your favorite essential oils - I kept it simple with four drops Bergamot oil (my favorite scent)
- Screw on the cap and give it a good shake.
- You're ready to test it out!
To err on the side of caution, especially when experimenting with a new oil or mat; turn your mat over (back side showing) and test on a small corner before applying to the entire mat. A note on oils, in my experience I've been safe with the following: lavender, tea tree, lemon, orange, and bergamot. Search for oils that possess antimicrobial properties and always research before experimenting. I would steer clear of naturally warming oils such as cinnamon. The last thing you want is to smell and feel like a red hot candy in the middle of a heated vinyasa flow.
I'd love to see what combinations you all come up with. Happy practice!
